About This Game

Lethal Wedding is a top-down run-and-gun shooter developed by Mega Cat Studios and published by 8 Bit Legit, targeting the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive hardware with a simultaneous Steam release. The game was originally announced in September 2024 and had a Kickstarter campaign delayed before launching on June 2, 2026.

The game places two players in the roles of a bride and her mother-in-law, who must fight through more than 30 levels of criminal clowns, circus performers, and mobsters to rescue a kidnapped groom. It supports two-player couch co-op throughout and features a range of over-the-top weapons alongside the Vow System, a risk/reward mechanic that layers optional high-difficulty challenges onto each level, with upgrade unlocks tied to completion. Players can accumulate more than 25 character upgrades across a run.

Lethal Wedding draws its primary inspiration from the 1993 LucasArts/Konami co-production Zombies Ate My Neighbors, a top-down action game for SNES and Genesis with a horror-comedy aesthetic and two-player co-op. The game's Kickstarter stretch goals include key art contributions from Bill Tiller, the artist behind iconic visuals in The Curse of Monkey Island who also appeared as a hidden character in Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and a deluxe OST CD from George "The Fatman" Sanger and Joe McDermott of Team Fat, composers who worked on the original Zombies Ate My Neighbors soundtrack.

Mega Cat Studios, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a homebrew publisher with a catalogue of original cartridge releases for retro hardware. Physical rewards for Lethal Wedding include a standard Genesis/Mega Drive cartridge-in-box edition, a Limited Edition variant with alternate artwork, and a vinyl LP soundtrack. The game is also available to wishlist on Steam. No final release date has been announced as of the Kickstarter launch.
