POCG VERDICT
A brilliant RTS/FPS hybrid that trips over its own feet.
Savage blends RTS and FPS in a way nothing else has, but the beast side is hobbled, the weapons lack variety, and the community is thin. A cheap curiosity if you stick to humans.
About This Game

Savage: The Battle for Newerth is a multiplayer online game that fuses real-time strategy and first-person shooter gameplay, developed by S2 Games. Released in 2003 for Windows, one team takes on the role of the human Legions, while the other plays as the Beast Horde, each with distinct units, weapons, and structures. One player on each side becomes the commander, overseeing the battlefield from a top-down RTS perspective, constructing bases, researching technology, and issuing orders to other players. Everyone else plays as a warrior on the ground in third- or first-person perspective, carrying out those orders in fast-paced combat. The game features over twenty maps, a variety of melee and ranged weapons, and a unique promotion system that rewards player performance. While it has no single-player mode, Savage gained a dedicated community for its ambitious genre-blending and competitive team play.
