Star Conflict is a free-to-play space-combat MMO developed by Star Gem and published by Gaijin Entertainment, released for Windows in 2013 after an open-beta period. It places players in the cockpits of agile spacecraft for action-oriented, session-based multiplayer dogfights set in a distant, conflict-ridden region of the galaxy. Combining the fast reflexes of an arcade space shooter with MMO progression and customisation, it lets players pilot a range of ship classes, from nimble interceptors to heavy gunships and support vessels, each with distinct roles, and outfit them with weapons, modules and upgrades earned through play. The game features both player-versus-player battles in various modes and cooperative player-versus-environment content, including open-space exploration zones, raids against powerful alien 'Aliens' and faction-driven missions. As a free-to-play title, it follows the genre's familiar model of progression supplemented by optional premium ships and currency. Gaijin, also known for War Thunder, supported it with ongoing updates and new content. Reasonably well received within its niche, Star Conflict appealed to fans of accessible, tactical space combat seeking team-based action without a steep simulation learning curve. It stands as a durable entry in the relatively uncommon space-dogfighting MMO space, blending arcade flight with persistent customisation and online competition.
