Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Getting Native PlayStation Ports, Launch Said for July
Activision is bringing Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II to modern PlayStation consoles, reportedly in July, with full campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes.
Activision, Treyarch, and Iron Galaxy have announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops II are being officially ported to PlayStation consoles, though the companies have not specified whether these are native PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 releases. The ports are reportedly set for July, and they will include each game’s Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies modes.
These two entries are among the most fondly remembered in the series, but their original PlayStation 3 versions have been stuck on that console, while Xbox 360 and PC versions remained playable through backwards compatibility or Steam. Bringing them to modern PlayStation hardware with native ports is a legitimate preservation move, giving players access without relying on streaming or PS3 hardware.
It’s a welcome release, even if the pricing and any missing content remain unknown. The oddity is that these are only being discussed as PlayStation ports. No word on a refreshed PC or Xbox release, which would be low-hanging fruit for preservation. Still, getting Black Ops and its Zombies mode off the PS3 and onto current consoles is a win.
