SoulCalibur II
SoulCalibur II is a 3D weapons-based fighting game developed by Project Soul and published by Namco, released in arcades in 2002 and on home consoles (PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube) in August 2003 in North America. It is the sequel to SoulCalibur (1998/1999) and the third mainline entry in Namco's Soul series.
The game features an expanded roster of returning and new fighters, each wielding a signature weapon in Namco's eight-way run combat system. The home versions each include an exclusive guest character: Link from The Legend of Zelda on GameCube, Heihachi Mishima from Tekken on PlayStation 2, and Spawn from Todd McFarlane's comic series on Xbox. The core game is otherwise identical across all three platforms.
Single-player content centers on Weapon Master, an expanded adventure-style mode in which players progress through chapters of increasingly complex fights with special conditions, earning gold and experience points to unlock new weapons, costumes, bonus artwork, and character demonstrations. The game supports local multiplayer and features Arcade, Versus, Time Attack, Survival, and Practice modes.
SoulCalibur II was a critical and commercial success, praised for its refined combat, expanded content, and strong presentation. An HD Online Edition was released digitally for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2013, featuring updated visuals and online play. The game is widely considered one of the defining fighters of its console generation.
