About This Game

Devwill is an action platformer created by the Brazilian illustrator and independent developer known as Amaweks, first released for PC in 2017. It is presented in stark black and white and styled after early silent cinema: the story is delivered through title cards written as a dramatic poem, and the whole game carries the flicker and melodrama of a 1920s film. The player controls a golem who awakens without knowing his purpose and sets out through a series of hostile, trap-laden environments in defiance of the creator who built him. Moment to moment, Devwill is a fireball-throwing platformer in which the golem battles undead enemies, gathers keys, and picks a careful path through hazards that punish mistakes. Its tone, part gothic fable and part arcade challenge, set it apart from other indie platformers of its era. In 2026 Amaweks rebuilt Devwill as a native Sega Master System game and released it on a physical cartridge through LMS Retro in Brazil, with a European edition following via Teknamic. The Master System version drew attention for its deliberately handmade production: a hand-drawn printed manual made without AI, and a stop-motion launch trailer. The port continues a long tradition of new homebrew software for the Master System, a console that enjoyed an unusually long commercial life in Brazil, where it remained in production for decades after being discontinued elsewhere.
