About This Game

Angry Birds Trilogy is a 2012 compilation of Rovio Entertainment's hugely popular physics-puzzle series, brought to home consoles and handhelds by Activision. It bundles three of the mobile games that defined the franchise, the original Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio, into a single retail package for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo 3DS, with later versions for the Wii, Wii U and PlayStation Vita. The core gameplay is unchanged from the touchscreen originals: players use a slingshot to launch a flock of wingless birds at fortifications built by egg-stealing pigs, exploiting each bird type's special ability and the game's destructible-structure physics to topple the pigs in as few shots as possible. For its console release the games were rebuilt with high-definition graphics, remastered audio and platform-specific control schemes adapted to gamepads, Kinect, PlayStation Move and the 3DS's stereoscopic display. The collection drew criticism chiefly for its full retail price, since the source games were free or inexpensive on mobile, and reviewers questioned how well the slingshot mechanic translated away from a touchscreen to buttons and sticks. Even so, it served as a convenient, content-rich anthology for fans and capitalised on the franchise's peak cultural ubiquity, a moment when Angry Birds merchandise, cartoons and spin-offs were everywhere.
