About This Game

Dead or Alive 5 is a 2012 3D fighting game developed by Team Ninja and published by Tecmo Koei for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The fifth main entry in the Dead or Alive series, it advances the franchise's fast, counter-driven combat, built on a rock-paper-scissors triangle of strikes, throws and holds, while emphasising spectacular, interactive stages full of multi-tiered 'Danger Zones', explosive hazards and destructible environments that send fighters crashing between areas. The roster blends returning DOA favourites such as Kasumi, Ayane, Hayabusa and Helena with guest characters from Sega's Virtua Fighter, including Akira, Sarah and Pai, bridging the two fighting franchises. The story mode weaves the characters' rivalries and conspiracies into a cinematic campaign, and the game supports extensive online play. Known throughout its history for its glamorous character designs, DOA5 retained that signature presentation while Team Ninja pursued a more grounded, realistic visual look and a push for greater fighting-game-community credibility. It received generally favourable reviews for its accessible yet deep combat and lavish presentation, and was supported by numerous updates and re-releases, including Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate and Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, which added characters, stages and refinements over several years. Its many revisions culminated in Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, before the series continued with Dead or Alive 6 in 2019.
