MechWarrior Tactics was a browser-based, turn-based strategy game set in the BattleTech universe, developed during the early 2010s as part of a wider revival of the MechWarrior and BattleTech brands. Distinct from the real-time cockpit simulation of its sister title MechWarrior Online, it adapted giant-robot warfare into a grid-based, turn-based tactical format reminiscent of classic strategy board games, asking players to maneuver lances of BattleMechs across maps and exchange fire with careful attention to positioning, range, heat and component targeting. The game also incorporated collectible elements, with players acquiring and customising mechs and pilots to build their forces, reflecting the trading-card and collection trends popular in online games of the period. As a free-to-play browser title, it aimed to bring BattleTech's deep, methodical tactical combat to a more accessible, lightweight platform. POCG covered its development through a designer diary. The project ultimately had a limited lifespan and did not achieve the longevity of MechWarrior Online, but it represented part of the concerted effort to expand the BattleTech franchise across multiple online formats. MechWarrior Tactics is remembered as a turn-based, collection-driven companion piece within that revival, catering to fans who preferred deliberate strategy over real-time mech piloting. It was ultimately short-lived, unable to match the longevity of its sister title MechWarrior Online.
