Star Wars 1313
Star Wars 1313 was a cancelled action-adventure game developed by LucasArts, announced in 2012 and intended for the platforms of its era. Distinct from the franchise's usual focus on Jedi and the Force, it was conceived as a darker, more mature Star Wars story centred on a bounty hunter navigating the criminal underworld of Coruscant's notorious Level 1313, a deep, lawless underbelly of the galaxy's capital planet. The game generated considerable excitement following an impressive gameplay demonstration that showcased cutting-edge visuals, cinematic action and a grittier tone aimed at older players, positioning it as a flagship next-generation Star Wars title. However, Star Wars 1313 became one of the most lamented casualties of corporate upheaval: when The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 and subsequently shuttered LucasArts as a development studio in 2013, the project was cancelled before completion. Disney's decision to license the Star Wars game rights to Electronic Arts redirected the franchise's video-game future entirely. Surviving footage and concept material continued to circulate, fuelling enduring fan disappointment over what might have been. Star Wars 1313 is remembered as a tantalising, never-realised vision of a more adult, underworld-focused Star Wars game, and a symbol of LucasArts' final days. Surviving demo footage continues to circulate, keeping alive fan disappointment over the game's cancellation.
