Super Monkey Ball is a platform puzzle game where players tilt the entire stage to roll a monkey trapped in a transparent ball toward a goal. The series originated in arcades with Monkey Ball on Sega NAOMI hardware, but it rose to prominence as a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. Developed by Amusement Vision (a Sega division) and published by Sega, the GameCube version featured fast, precise controls, a vibrant art style, and a punishing difficulty curve that made it a cult favorite. The Dreamcast, which shared the NAOMI’s architecture, never received an official version. In 2026, homebrew developer Memorix101 began porting the GameCube release to the Dreamcast using assets from a decompilation project, finally giving the game a home on the console it was always a natural fit for.
