About This Game

Super Monkey Ball is a party and action-puzzle game series created by SEGA, beginning with the 2001 arcade and GameCube title developed by Amusement Vision. Its inventive core concept casts players as one of several monkeys, Aiai, Meemee, Baby and Gongon, each trapped inside a transparent ball, who must be rolled through elaborate floating mazes and obstacle courses. Crucially, the player does not move the monkey directly but tilts the entire stage, using momentum and balance to guide the ball toward the goal while avoiding falling off the edges, a simple but deceptively challenging premise demanding precision and nerve. Beyond its main stage-clearing mode, the series became renowned for its excellent collection of multiplayer party mini-games, such as Monkey Target, Monkey Race and Monkey Billiards, which made it a beloved social and party experience. Charming, colourful and accessible yet capable of fiendish difficulty, Super Monkey Ball was a standout early title for the GameCube and spawned a long-running franchise across consoles and handhelds. POCG referenced it amid a sale roundup. The original remains a celebrated SEGA classic, fondly remembered for its unique tilting gameplay and its riotous multiplayer mini-games. It spawned a long-running franchise across consoles and handhelds, including a celebrated 2021 remaster, Banana Mania.
