About This Game

Wargame: AirLand Battle is a 2013 real-time strategy and tactics game developed by Eugen Systems and published by Focus Home Interactive for Windows, macOS and Linux. The second entry in the Wargame series, it depicts a hypothetical Cold War-gone-hot conflict in 1980s Scandinavia between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces, and is renowned for its scale, authenticity and demanding tactical depth. Building on its predecessor European Escalation, the game's signature addition was the integration of air power: alongside the hundreds of meticulously modelled real-world tanks, infantry, helicopters and support vehicles, players now command combat aircraft, fighters, bombers and reconnaissance planes, that sweep across the battlefield, dramatically expanding the strategic dimension. Combat emphasises realistic ranges, line of sight, morale, logistics and the careful composition of custom 'decks' of units drawn from various NATO and Pact nations. It features a dynamic strategic campaign and large-scale multiplayer battles supporting many players. Critically well received, Wargame: AirLand Battle was praised for its enormous unit roster, authenticity, visual fidelity at vast zoom ranges and rewarding, hardcore tactical gameplay, even as its complexity made it daunting for newcomers. It stands as a respected entry in the hardcore Cold War wargaming niche and a refinement of Eugen Systems' distinctive large-scale tactical design.
