About This Hardware

The Epilogue N64 Operator is a cartridge reader under development by Epilogue, the company behind the GB Operator and SN Operator. Like its predecessors, the N64 Operator is designed to dump Nintendo 64 game cartridges, back up save files, verify cartridge authenticity, and enable play through emulation on a PC.

The device continues Epilogue’s Operator line of preservation-focused hardware accessories. The GB Operator and SN Operator have been well received for their straightforward interfaces and robust feature sets, and the N64 version aims to bring the same functionality to Nintendo’s fifth-generation console library. Cartridge dumping and save management are especially significant for N64 titles, where original save batteries and fragile cartridge contacts pose risks to long-term access.

Epilogue confirmed the N64 Operator’s existence in June 2026, timing the announcement to the console’s 30th anniversary. The company has also teased plans for a future Nintendo DS Operator. No release date, pricing, or detailed specifications have been provided. When it ships, the N64 Operator will expand the reach of enthusiast cartridge preservation beyond Game Boy and SNES into a console generation where physical media preservation is increasingly urgent.
