Epilogue confirms it’s working on an N64 Operator cartridge reader

Epilogue has confirmed an N64 Operator cartridge reader is in the works, adding Nintendo 64 support to its preservation-focused line of cartridge dumpers and save-file backup devices.

Epilogue has confirmed it is developing an N64 Operator, extending its line of cartridge readers beyond the Game Boy and SNES. The company announced the news to coincide with the N64’s 30th anniversary, and also teased a future Nintendo DS Operator once the N64 version is done.

The existing GB Operator and SN Operator have earned a strong reputation for letting owners dump cartridge data, back up save files, check authenticity, and play games under emulation on a PC. An N64 version plugs the same toolkit into a console library where original cartridges are getting fragile and save batteries are failing. For anyone who wants to keep their childhood Ocarina of Time save alive or verify a Conker cart before they drop real money on it, this is the next logical step.

The Operator line is quietly becoming a preservation toolkit rather than a novelty gadget. Game Boy and SNES were the proof of concept. N64 support moves the idea into territory where the hardware is more complex and the stakes for cart and save preservation are higher. No price or release window has been shared yet, but the commitment to DS afterwards suggests Epilogue is playing a long game.
