About This Game

Assassin's Creed III is a 2012 open-world action-adventure developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Windows. A landmark entry in the long-running series, it moves the historical setting to the American Revolution of the late 18th century, following Connor (Ratonhnhaké:ton), a half-Mohawk, half-British Assassin, alongside the framing story of present-day protagonist Desmond Miles as the overarching conflict between Assassins and Templars reaches a climax. Built on a new Anvil engine, the game introduced sweeping changes: dense Revolutionary-era Boston and New York, expansive frontier wilderness with tree-running and hunting, dynamic weather and seasons, large-scale naval combat aboard the player's ship, and a homestead the player develops over time. Series staples of parkour traversal, stealth and counter-based melee return, refined for the new setting and its tomahawk-and-musket arsenal. Players also relive pivotal historical moments and encounter figures such as George Washington. Assassin's Creed III was a major commercial success and was praised for its ambition, scope and the standout naval missions that would spin off into Black Flag, though some reviewers criticised a slow opening, a sprawling structure and technical rough edges. It remains a pivotal chapter that closed the Desmond-era storyline. A standalone follow-up, Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, and the 2019 'Remastered' edition further expanded its reach.
