Legends of Pegasus
Legends of Pegasus is a 2012 turn-based and real-time 4X space-strategy game developed by Novacore and Stardust Studios and published by Kalypso Media for Windows. Set in a far-future galaxy where humanity has spread to the stars, it casts players as the leader of an interstellar civilisation tasked with exploring star systems, colonising planets, researching technologies, designing custom warships and waging war against rival factions, including alien races, across a story-driven campaign and skirmish modes. The game distinguishes itself by pairing classic 4X empire management on a galactic map with real-time tactical space battles, and by offering a detailed ship-design system allowing players to construct fleets from hulls, weapons and modules. Despite an ambitious feature set, Legends of Pegasus was met with a poor critical and player reception, hampered at launch by significant bugs, balance problems, interface issues and a general lack of polish. The troubled release led the publisher to issue patches and even offer refunds, an unusual step, as it struggled to meet expectations in a genre with demanding fans. It is remembered as a cautionary example of an under-cooked 4X title, of interest mainly to dedicated space-strategy enthusiasts curious about its ideas rather than its execution. The troubled launch and subsequent refunds severely damaged its reputation, and no sequel followed.
