About This Game

Mighty Cuphead Adventure is an upcoming action platformer developed and published by Studio MDHR, announced at Summer Game Fest 2026. The game is a spin-off to the studio's acclaimed 2017 run-and-gun title Cuphead, built by a small internal team while the main studio works on a full hand-animated sequel.

Unlike Cuphead's boss-rush structure, Mighty Cuphead Adventure is a fast-paced 2D side-scrolling platformer inspired by 1980s arcade hardware. The game is programmed entirely in Assembly language and designed to the precise specifications of the Sega Master System, including its 32-color palette and display characteristics. Studio MDHR has confirmed it will be released as a physical cartridge for actual Sega Master System hardware, alongside versions for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

The announcement was made in character, framed as a vintage television broadcast produced with Toronto's Stop Motion Department and Continue Agency. Studio MDHR co-founder Chad Moldenhauer described the project as an expression of the studio's commitment to craft. The game was described as still in early development at the time of announcement, with no release window or pricing confirmed.
