Pokemon Conquest
Pokemon Conquest is a 2012 tactical role-playing game developed by Tecmo Koei (Koei) and published by The Pokemon Company and Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. An unusual crossover, it fuses the Pokemon franchise with Koei's long-running Nobunaga's Ambition series of feudal-Japanese strategy games, transposing Pokemon into the warring-states setting of the Ransei region. Players take on the role of a young warlord who, partnered with the Pokemon Eevee, sets out to unite Ransei's seventeen kingdoms by recruiting human 'Warriors', each bonded to a Pokemon, and conquering rival domains. Gameplay centres on turn-based, grid-based tactical battles where Pokemon move and attack across a battlefield, with the series' familiar type matchups determining effectiveness, while a strategic layer involves managing kingdoms, recruiting warlords and strengthening bonds between Warriors and their Pokemon. This blend of Pokemon collecting and Nobunaga's Ambition strategy created a distinctive, surprisingly deep experience. Critical reception was positive; reviewers praised the inventive crossover, accessible yet engaging tactics and high replayability, while noting some repetition. Pokemon Conquest stands as one of the more imaginative Pokemon spin-offs, beloved by strategy fans for successfully marrying two very different franchises into a cohesive and charming tactical adventure. Despite its warm reception, the unusual crossover never received a direct sequel.
