POCG VERDICT
Dumbed-down, broken at launch, and a betrayal of everything Rainbow Six stood for.
Rainbow 6: Lockdown trades tactical depth for console-friendly simplicity, and ships with broken audio and multiplayer. Pretty to look at, but a hollow shell.
About This Game

Rainbow 6: Lockdown is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. Released on February 16, 2006 for Windows (later ported to Xbox and PlayStation 2), it is the fourth main entry in the Rainbow Six series. Lockdown marks a significant departure from its predecessors, shifting emphasis from meticulous planning and realistic weapon mechanics toward a more action-oriented, console-friendly experience. The single-player campaign sends Team Rainbow around the world to thwart a chemical weapons plot, while the multiplayer introduces a class-based system with respawns alongside traditional team adversarial modes. The game features a new graphics engine with detailed environments, high-resolution textures, and support for SLI, but also removes the series' hallmark planning phase, realistic clip management, and complex ballistics. Multiplayer is facilitated exclusively through the Ubi.com service and requires a separate multiplayer key. At launch, the game suffered from severe technical issues including broken audio, pervasive multiplayer connectivity problems, and crashes, prompting a significant patch several months later.
