The most innovative multiplayer FPS in years. Spawn camping is dead.
Section 8 fixes spawn camping, adds overdrive sprinting, and throws every game mode into one match. A technical mess at launch, but an incredible shooter once patched.
About This Game

Section 8 is a first-person shooter developed by TimeGate Studios and released in 2009 for Windows PC. Set in a futuristic sci-fi universe, the game emphasizes large-scale team-based multiplayer, though it includes a single-player campaign. Players join the 8th Armored Infantry, dropping onto battlefields from orbit using a unique spawning system that allows them to choose their landing point anywhere on the map. The game features a dynamic capture-point mode interwoven with procedurally generated mission objectives (Dynamic Campaign Missions), which mix elements of capture the flag, VIP escort, convoy defense, and other classic modes. Other innovations include an overdrive sprint mechanic, limited-use jetpacks, a money-based deployable system for calling in turrets, vehicles, and supply stations, and a target lock-on system that adds strategic depth to firefights. Players customize loadouts with weapons, equipment, and passive modules. Progression is tracked through persistent ranks and achievements via Games for Windows Live. Despite a launch plagued by technical issues on the Steam version, the game was praised for its ambitious blending of mechanics and its solutions to common FPS frustrations like spawn camping.

How to Play TodayYour options for running this game in 2026
Original Hardware
DVD copies exist but require Games for Windows Live activation, which is now defunct. Without a community patch to bypass GFWL, the game is unplayable from original discs.
Emulation / Other Options
Runs on modern Windows PCs via community patches that remove GFWL dependency and fix compatibility issues. Not an emulated game; a native Windows title that requires patching to function on Windows 10/11.
