SiN
SiN is a first-person shooter developed by Ritual Entertainment and published by Activision, released for Windows in November 1998. Built on a modified Quake II engine, the game distinguishes itself through interactive environments, mission-based gameplay, and a branching narrative it calls 'action-based outcomes.' Players assume the role of Colonel John Blade, a commander in the private security force HardCorps, as he fights a crime wave in the cyberpunk megalopolis of Freeport. The core conflict revolves around the designer drug U4, which mutates some users into aggressive mutants. Over six missions spanning 24 levels, Blade uncovers a conspiracy involving a powerful biotech executive. SiN features 16-bit color, dynamic colored lighting, translucent and masked textures, and extensive scripting that brings the world to life: computers can be accessed, vehicles driven, and even toilets flushed. The game supports both single-player and online deathmatch, and received an 18 MB patch shortly after launch to address severe technical issues. An expansion pack, Wages of SiN, was later released, adding new missions and multiplayer content. SiN is remembered for its ahead-of-its-time interactivity and gritty atmosphere, despite initial instability.
