Ehrgeiz
Ehrgeiz is a 1998 fighting game developed by Squaresoft for the PlayStation, notable for featuring characters from Final Fantasy VII. Titled after the German word for "ambition," the game blends a traditional 3D fighting mode with a robust action RPG quest mode and several mini-games on a single disc. The fighting roster includes original fighters like Godhand, Yoko, Lee, and Prince Doza, alongside cameos from Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth. The quest mode, "The Forsaken Dungeon," casts players as Koji and Claire navigating a massive randomly generated dungeon, with equipment, leveling, and even a wine trading mini-economy. The game also includes four quirky non-lethal mini-games. While the fighting mode was panned for clunky mechanics and poor presentation, the RPG component earned a cult following for its depth and novelty.
