POCG VERDICT
A tactical masterpiece for solo players; multiplayer is a disaster.
Rogue Spear polishes everything Rainbow Six did right, adds snipers and cover arcs, and delivers the best single-player tactical action going. Just steer clear of the broken multiplayer.
About This Game

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear is a tactical first-person shooter developed and published by Red Storm Entertainment. Released in 2000 for Windows, it is the direct sequel to the groundbreaking 1998 title Rainbow Six. The game casts players as the leader of a multinational counter-terrorism unit, planning and executing precise missions across 18 globe-spanning scenarios. Rogue Spear refines the formula that made its predecessor a hit, introducing new features such as sniper support, enhanced squad command options, and a deeper planning phase. The engine received a noticeable visual polish, and Bill Brown’s dramatic score sets a tense, cinematic tone. While the single-player campaign is highly regarded for its depth and tension, the multiplayer component suffered from severe netcode issues that plagued online play at launch. The game was a critical and commercial success, cementing Rainbow Six as a cornerstone of the tactical shooter genre.
