POCG VERDICT
Still the king of jetpack combat, now prettier and more accessible than ever.
Tribes: Vengeance streamlines the formula without losing the soul. It's faster, smoother, and gorgeous, a worthy follow-up even if it leaves some beloved gear in the past.
About This Game

Tribes: Vengeance is a first-person shooter developed by Irrational Games and published by Vivendi Universal Games in 2004. Built on the Unreal Tournament 2004 engine, it serves as both a prequel and sequel to the previous Tribes games, blending a single-player campaign with the franchise's signature fast-paced, jetpack-enabled multiplayer. The single-player story weaves a sci-fi tale of familial betrayal and revenge across multiple timelines, introducing new players to the series' unique movement mechanics, skiing, jetpacks, and disc jumping, through scripted missions. Multiplayer retains the core of the classic Tribes formula: massive outdoor maps, deployable turrets and sensors, vehicle combat, and loadout-based team roles. The game streamlines certain elements from Tribes 2, reducing the number of available packs and removing the laser designator, but refines skiing physics, revamps weapon balance, and adds separate supply stations for deployables. While some community features shipped incomplete, T:V offers robust server admin tools and a more forgiving team-play experience that lowers the bar for casual cooperation without sacrificing depth. The result is a visually striking, fast, and accessible entry in the franchise that pleased many veterans and welcomed newcomers.
