The old guard of computer RPGs, still swinging swords and casting fireballs.

POCG VERDICT
A traditional CRPG that doesn't reinvent the wheel, but rolls it with style.
Deep character building, real-time/turn-based combat, and a story that branches for real replay value. Might and Magic VII is a true old-school adventure that will cost you sleep.
About This Game

Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor is a first-person role-playing game developed by New World Computing and published by 3DO in 1999. It is the seventh main entry in the long-running Might and Magic series, following the timeline established by Heroes of Might and Magic III. The game casts the player as the leader of a party of four adventurers who must explore the world of Erathia, uncover a conspiracy, and choose between the paths of Light and Dark.

Gameplay blends real-time exploration with a toggleable turn-based combat mode. Players control a party from a first-person perspective, navigating 3D outdoor environments and dungeon interiors rendered in a vibrant, if technically conservative, engine. The character system offers four races (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Goblin), three genders per race, and nine starting classes including Knight, Thief, Cleric, and Sorcerer. Skills such as Alchemy, Perception, and weapon proficiencies are advanced through use, with ranks from Normal to Grand Master, while classes can earn progressive titles that unlock new abilities.

The game supports Direct3D acceleration but is widely considered to look best in software rendering mode, with sharper textures and richer colors. Audio features a thematic soundtrack that changes with location and context, and 3D positional sound via DirectSound3D or Aureal A3D. Might and Magic VII was praised for its deep character progression, branching storyline that significantly boosts replayability, and the sheer volume of content, though its graphics and incremental improvements over Might and Magic VI drew some criticism. It remains a cult favorite among fans of traditional computer RPGs.
