Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is a 2D action-exploration game developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the studio behind Dead Cells, and published by Konami. It was released on October 15, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store, with a Switch release to follow later in 2026.
Set in 1499 Paris, the game is a direct sequel to Castlevania: Dracula's Curse (1989), taking place 23 years after that game's events. Players control Rose Belmont, teenage daughter of series veteran Trevor Belmont, as she fights through monster-infested streets and uncovers a dark conspiracy threatening the city. Trevor himself appears early in the game before Rose takes centre stage as the primary protagonist.
The game retains the classic Castlevania whip combat as its foundation, adding traversal mechanics that let players use the whip to swing and reposition in combat. A central system called the Arcana replaces traditional subweapons: when Rose defeats a major boss, she seals them into a tarot card and gains access to their abilities as active skills. Equipment spans seven weapon categories alongside a Relic system that provides passive and active combat modifiers.
Visually, Belmont's Curse draws on the Gothic architecture and iconography of the classic series while presenting it through a contemporary hand-crafted art style, influenced by Motion Twin and Evil Empire's previous work on Dead Cells. Notable boss encounters include Death, Medusa, Carmilla, and Joan of Arc.
The game was co-announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 and the Summer Game Fest period, where Konami confirmed both a Standard Edition ($29.99) and a Midnight Edition ($39.99) including a digital art gallery, soundtrack, and costume bonuses.
